We are proud to announce that CleanSlate Centers Board Member Patrick J. Kennedy has been nominated to the White House commission to end the opioid crisis. The panel is led by Governor Chris Christie. Also nominated are Governors Roy Cooper and Charlie Baker, as well as Dr. Bertha Madras, professor at Harvard Medical School. Kennedy is a pioneer in mental health policy and advocacy. He served Rhode Island’s First Congressional District for 16 years, championing causes essential to the well-being of all Americans, with special regard to evidence-based treatment services for mental health and addiction.
After accepting the nomination, Kennedy said, “the opioid crisis is the single greatest threat to public health that we face today. It is not a Republican or a Democratic issue – we are first and foremost people with lived experience, family members, friends, colleagues, and caregivers. It will take urgent action, and high-level strategies from all sides to reverse the tide of overdoses and death.”
